Can children have a voice in mediation?
Yes, we encourage it
Research information shows that children want their voices to be heard about future arrangements when their parents are separating.
Children from the age of around 8 and upwards, whose parents are in mediation, can have a meetingwith the mediator if everyone involved is agreeable. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the children’s wishes and views about future arrangements before parents make final decisions.
The meeting is confidential and children decide what, if anything, is quoted back to the parents.
Children can come individually or with brothers and sisters – it is their choice.
Children must come along with a parent.
